Pick To Light

Pick to Light, or Light Directed Picking is another paperless picking solution most often associated with broken case picking.  Individual SKU locations are typically complimented with a button/LED module to direct an operator to the ‘next’ pick location without paper or terminal distractions.  Most pick to light implementations use a button press to signal the picks completion and indexes the computer controls on to the next  Usually button/LED modules are fixed to bays of case flow rack; picking occurs on the front and SKUs are replenished from behind down gravity lanes.  Pick-to-light technology works very well with high to medium-high moving SKUs.  Many different operation strategies are available with respect to operator span of control, and work flow balancing.  Careful considerations must be paid to SKU selection, subsystem dependencies and order profiles during design for successful implementations of pick to light technologies.

Pick-to-Light Brochure PDF

The pick to light system illustrated in the brochure above was designed to provide system integrators and end users with a light directed order fulfillment system that is easily installed, controlled, and maintained.

Pick modules and displays are designed to be snapped into a special 3-wire BUS, which is housed in a rigid PVC extrusion. This design, similar to a track lighting system, greatly minimizes the wiring required to install a system. For this reason, this style of system installs very quickly.

All pick to light devices are identified with a serial number, which assures no two devices are the same. This serial number is used to identify a device when communicating with it. This feature also minimizes system installation and setup as no DIP switches or other indexing methods are required to uniquely identify each device.

These Display based systems use a full 4-digit numerical pick module at each pick location. This format provides the ability to show all required picks and their corresponding quantities at once. As picks are completed, pickers press the task complete pushbuttons until all are extinguished. Usually, order control modules are provided on each bay to provide a method for the operator to indicate he/she has finished the order and is ready to pass the order to the next zone.
